Zach Mukwira b.1968 Makonde Zimbabwe has devised his artistic process as a language of storytelling. He presently resides in the Western Cape.
He interprets his cultural traditions in a contemporised format combining colour, design and patterning to express imaginative fables.
Spitting into the Wind depicts a musician, serene and lost in her music- making. Whirling in a myriad of harmonious colours, fish transform into foliar imagery, suggesting rhythmic syncopation of colour swathes and muscial vitality.
His imagery suggests upliftment, a certain gaiety and harmonious resolution. Animal forms transform into foliar imagery whilst the demeanour of the human figures suggests peaceful contentment and gentleness.
Mukwira’s family migrated from Mozambique to Zimbabwe, chased by civil unrest. His art expresses an eternal hope for peace and neighbourliness.
