TRACY ALGAR

Artist Tracy Algar lived in the Overberg and has recently moved to the small country village of Adendorp near Graf Reinet. Her interest lies in recording the everchanging atmospheric variety of the wide open country landscape scenic offerings. Her artistic eye finds stimulation in the challenge of recording and interpreting light and colour change.

She paints en plein air but claims no affiliation to her forbears the Impressionists. She translates the way in which light changes shapes, patterns and colour formats mapping out the values, allowing brushwork and colour its total freedom.

In so doing, an attempt is made to reproduce this dynamic energy onto her canvases. Voelklip Beach Hermanus records a typically chilly day where the ancient granite rocks meet the ever pounding waves, firmly holding their ground, a metaphor for much of all living creatures.

Leeb Street Adendorp catches the effect of light filtering through the shade provided by the leafy branches above. Sunlight permeates the road ahead, reflected in the different shades of yellow and gold shimmering beneath a clear blue sky.

Algar prefers working on a small scale and yet successfully succeeds in presenting large view compositions as a satisfying whole.
