Sara Abbot b.1945 Nairobi Kenya has lived for 20 years in the pristine environment of Stanford village in the Overberg, Western Cape.
Her pastel drawings focus on the surrounding countryside, and as the climate warms, she witnesses the transformation of her environment.
The rising waters of the adjoining Klein River and the disappearing evidence of riverine insects and bird life are observations she documents with intuitive colour sense.
The 2023 October floods washed the fragile breeding grounds away, further endangering the survival of the endemic species. She portrays, in confident strokes of layered pastel crayon, her horses and other neighbouring farm animals living on the farms as carefree and free-spirited.
She has an intuitive colour sense and command of her material is used to depict scenic visions of her own garden and the rolling views of the surrounding landscape with its rich variety of plant life flourishing in this verdant environment.
