Amos Letsoalo b.1969 Ga Molepo Dihlopanang Limpopo is the curator of the Polokwane Museum in Limpopo, and a well-known artist and conservationist.
He interprets the indigenous culture of northern Sotho in Limpopo, focussing on daily existence within the villages and its human activity.
His unique style embraces the use of charcoal, pencil crayon and collage combined to create textural substance, with colour pinpointing the unexpected. Highlighted detail and collage increase the richness of the imagery.
Unpretentious and quiet, the modesty of the subject matter is visually compelling and satisfying.
Power Struggle metaphorically expresses the simmering unease present in the world today. Applicable to local South African politics as well as the far-ranging wars raging in the world, changes of government and dissatisfaction amongst most of the world’s populations, the potently succinct artistic language is expressed in a few lines and forms.
Letsoalo’s art is found in the JAG, SANG IZIKO South African Museum collections, the Smith College Museum of Art in Massachusetts, the United Nations Collection, the South African Embassy UK and numerous international and private collections.
